PLEASE NOTE: All participants must have their camera on, and name clearly displayed the entire workshop. Participants will be required to complete an evaluation and post-test immediately upon conclusion of the workshop to receive credit for contact hours. The CE certificate is awarded to those who attend the entire webinar.

Video games can transport us to worlds beyond our imagination. The creative clinician can use this dynamic and engaging medium to connect with clients while also addressing treatment goals.
Evidence-based therapies such as play therapy can be coupled with the use of video games to facilitate communication, enhance social relationships, improve problem solving skills and teach self-regulation.
This online workshop will discuss the research and integration of video games in play therapy and will provide participants with a list of recommended video games and resources to implement video games into practice.

- Discuss the research and effectiveness of video games in play therapy in the treatment of children, adolescents, and adults.
- Apply 3-4 play therapy interventions using video games to improve social skills, communication skills, and connection in individual, group, and family sessions.
- Identify 2-3 strategies of using online gaming and video games in telehealth.
- Discuss the most popular video games, including current gaming trends and language.
Josué Cardona, MS, earned a master’s in mental health counseling and trained in Rational Emotional Behavior Therapy (REBT) at the Albert Ellis Institute in New York City. He has worked with clients ages 4 to 84 through in-home, community, and outpatient counseling.
As an educator, Josué has designed a curriculum for social-emotional skills, technology, and language learning for K-12. At the university level, he co-created the course Geek Culture in Psychotherapy, taught at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology and co-authored Gamification: A Pilot Study in a Community College. Josué also acts as a diversity and inclusion Design Researcher for the Office of the Provost at the University of Chicago.
Josué is the founder of Geek Therapy, a therapeutic approach that believes the best way to understand people is through the things they care about. He is founder of the Geek Therapy nonprofit organization, home of the GT Network and community which educates parents, teachers, and helping professionals on how to use their favorite hobbies, pastimes, and interests to connect with others. Since 2011, Josué has presented on Geek Therapy through podcasts, blogs, book chapters, and presentations around the world.
Graduate level mental health students & licensed mental health practitioners. This seminar is a beginning level course. This workshop is appropriate for licensed and pre-licensed mental health professionals, including psychologists, social workers, marriage and family therapists, and professional counselors. Play therapy credit may not be awarded to non-mental health professionals.
Please note that the Association for Play Therapy (APT) alone holds the right to accept or deny any continuing education training at its discretion.
It is the responsibility of each professional to check with their state or national licensing board to obtain continuing education credit for this seminar. Most state and national licensing boards will approve continuing education courses which cover clinical topics, practice management skills, legal and ethical responsibilities and stress management.
